The Promotional Idea Showcase - Winter 2001 - Updated Quarterly

Promotional planning calendar

May

3: International Tuba Day. Recognizing what’s probably the most-dissed instrument in the orchestra, with the possible exception of the bassoon. A bizarre but fun promo-op for any firm.
5-11: Teacher Appreciation Week. The fact that they’re deplorably underpaid and under-respected is reason enough to honor them, but we all had at least one teacher who taught us a beneficial life-long lesson. Any company can participate.
18: Armed Forces Day. Honoring all U.S. military personnel, wherever they may be.
23: World Turtle Day. A day set aside to recognize turtles for the unique and interesting creatures they are, and to remind us that some, like the giant tortoises, need protection.
31: Great Cheese Festival. The real one’s in Wisconsin, but why not a local cheesefest, with tasting, games and so on?
1-31: Older Americans Month. “Old” rarely means useless, and seniors can contribute much to the community and workplace. A possible recruitment effort, with logoed items as take-aways?
9: Night-Shift Workers Day. Thanking those who work to keep commerce (and everything else) running smoothly while most of us are sleeping. Thank-you gifts at a special luncheon might be one suggestion.
12: Limerick Day. Saluting the only verse indigenous to our language, a great day for any group to sponsor contests and award prizes. “There once was a counselor named Pete …”
27: Dashiell Hammett: Birthday. American author generally acknowledged as the inventor of the hard-boiled private-detective novel. Interesting opportunity for bookstores, libraries, video stores, local TV networks, revival film theatres and more. Even men’s clothing shops (trench coats, double-breasted suits, fedoras) can get into
the act.
