The Promotional Idea Showcase - Winter 2001 - Updated Quarterly

Promotional planning calendar

March

2: National Salespersons’ Day. Most companies employ some sort of a sales staff. This is the day to recognize and thank them for their efforts in making money for you and keeping your business alive.
3-9: Save Your Vision Week. Emphasizing the importance of regular eye exams. A natural for optometrists, ophthalmologists and opticians, but also great for a more general program.
12: Jack Kerouac: Birthday. Poet/author considered the spokesperson for the Beat generation/movement. Offbeat promo-op for bookstores, coffee shops, music stores (bongos), places that sell black turtlenecks, etc.

21: Single Parents Day. One-parent households have their own set of issues,  circumstances and situations. Family counseling centers, religious organizations,

schools, understanding offices and more can participate.

1-31: International Listening Awareness Month. Devoted to the rapidly dwindling art of listening, not just hearing, people in all arenas, personal and business. Good
participation point for any management/supervisory team.
6: Michaelangelo Buonarroti Simoni: Birthday. One of the best-known sculptors and painters of all time. Super arts tie-in. Born 1475.
9: U.S. Paper Money Anniversary. The first official greenbacks were issued today, 1862, in three denominations: $5 (Hamilton), $10 (Lincoln) and $20 (Liberty). Prizes in imprinted envelopes can be one idea.
25: National Family Day. There are hundreds of ways most businesses can participate.
26: Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. Just what it says. The promotional possibilities are absolutely limitless.
31: John Arthur Johnson: Birthday. Better known as Jack, he was the first black heavyweight boxing champ – and considered one of the best boxers of all time. Unexpected promo-op for a “fight” or “champion” theme. Born 1878.
