The Promotional Idea Showcase - Winter 2000 - Updated Quarterly

PROMOTIONAL PLANNING CALENDAR

MAY:

1-31: National Hamburger Month. Celebrating one of the country’s favorite sandwiches. Any kind of restaurant that serves ’em, not to mention supermarkets, butcher shops, grill/accessories makers/retailers and even firms with in-house cafeterias can all be a part of it.

1-31: Better Sleep Month. It’s proven that poor sleep means poorer job performance, less alertness and, sometimes, bad health. Firms can sponsor good sleep seminars with logoed products (pillows, tapes) as gifts.

5: Significant Other Day. Honoring the special person in our lives. Florists, card shops, jewelers, etc., can offer special deals with promotional gifts as incentives.

6: Rudolph Valentino: Birthday. Generally considered filmdom’s first male superstar/sex symbol, responsible for making thousands of women swoon by simply flashing his eyes. Unexpected tie-in for theaters, video stores, dance studios (R.V. was supposedly a tango master), maybe even lingerie shops. Born 1895.

9: National Teacher Day. Schools are a given, but why not a luncheon or dinner sponsored by your company thanking some area teachers for all they do? Many products can act as a gift, even Lucite apples.

25: National Missing Children Day. Truthfully, do you remember who was on the milk carton this morning? An excellent opportunity for any group, business or organization to become more involved in a cause that seems to have slipped a bit in terms of visibility.

28: Ancestor Honor Day.  A day set aside to remember the many different cultures, races and nationalities that built this country. Museums, ethnic culture centers, schools, community centers and entire neighborhoods can become involved, as can the businesses in them.

31: Copyright Law Anniversary. George Washington signed it into law today, 1790. Interesting link with any promotion featuring a “protection” theme.
