APRIL: 1-30: National Humor Month. Laughter makes you feel better, eases stress and, best of all, it’s contagious. Comedy clubs, record stores (comedy albums), radio/TV stations, bookstores, etc., can all participate. 1: Straw Hat Month. Totally lighthearted, and why not? Any business can give out imprinted straw hats appropriate to its budget. Not to mention the tie-ins you and a counselor could develop together. 4: McKinley Morganfield: Birthday. Better
known as Muddy Waters, one of the fathers of modern, or Chicago, blues.
Radio stations, record stores, nightclubs and music publishers can all
celebrate. Born 1915. 18: Yankee Stadium Anniversary. The “House that Ruth Built” opened today in 1923, and few stadiums have ever achieved such legendary status since. A great day for any ballpark, team or sports store to tie in to.25: Martin Waldseemuller Remembrance Day.
The mapmaker who gave America its name. When he published his
Cosmographiae on this day in 1507, he named the New World after Italian
explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who he believed discovered it. He
didn’t find out about Columbus until a few years later, but by then the
name had stuck. Great day for an offbeat 29: Zipper Patented. Today in 1913, by Gideon Sundbach. And where would many of us be without it? Clothing stores, designers, etc., can jump on this one. 30: National Honesty Day. A day devoted to being completely honest with others, whether friends, family, clients or employees.
