PROMOTIONS WITH SILVER LININGS
by Josh Vasquez

Need a particular color to carry a promotional theme? There are many available. Even silver. Maybe you need something to celebrate a 25th anniversary or some other major achievement. Sometimes it’s easy; go for metal. Other things are surprising. As your counselor can show you, every promotion may not have a silver lining, but if you ever need a silver exterior ...

SILVER LIGHT. Candles aren’t just for light anymore. Haven’t been for awhile. Now, many are laced with the latest aromatherapy scents and/or lavishly colored to add atmosphere to any room – and outdoors as well. They also come packaged in just about anything. This metal candle holder, from asi/73497, adds an additional original touch to an old yet ever-changing product.

FLASHY DESKTOP REAL ESTATE. Want something a little beyond the typical when it comes to computer accessories? Try using boldly colored or differently shaped products, such as this rounded silver mousepad from asi/98740. If the recipients aren’t readily impressed with its space-age color and look, they will be by its utilitarian side. For those really silly moments, it doesn’t make a bad flying disc either!

THIRD DIMENSIONAL CHIC. Remember those horrible red and blue-lensed monstrosities you had to wear when you saw a movie filmed in 3-D or looked through a magazine printed in the same format? Cardboard glasses have come a long way. Now they’re available with transparent or tinted (think sunglasses) lenses. Some even offer enough eye protection to double as solar-eclipse viewers or welding shields, the maker says. Best of all, they work as well as they ever have. Particularly cool when sent with a 3-D flyer, brochure or catalog. Oh, yeah – they come in silver.

UP IN THE AIR. Silver meets cloth with these juggling balls, courtesy of asi/72241. If you’ve ever wondered if some executives have personalities, these may provide an answer to that question. Perfect for sparking creativity and just good old stress-relieving, the balls just might also teach some old managers new tricks. Try using them in tandem with corporate meetings and/or brainstorming sessions. Also good for those who “juggle” multiple tasks on a daily basis. Fully imprintable and gift-boxed, if desired.

REFLECTIVE WRITING. Keeping records, doodling, taking notes, maintaining a journal. Whatever the task, a notebook’s needed. There are all kinds out there, but if your promo can use a metallic touch, check out these day-planners and blank books from asi/91340. They’re available with thick silver-colored cardboard covers (with contrasting foil highlights), or if you prefer a more “natural” silver, solid aluminum covers – not to mention combinations. A neat way to open minds up to your imprint while they’re involved in stream-of-consciousness writing or rigid bookkeeping.

HI RETRO, SILVER. Remember ViewMasters? Depending on your age, you were able to look at 3-D scenes of almost anything: the 1939 or 1964 New York World’s Fair, the 1969 moon landing, or even scenes from Land of The Lost. And each generation thought the viewers were absolutely cutting edge. Well, if perception’s everything, they still are. Land of The Lost is long gone, along with 1939 and 1964. And we just passed the 30th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s one small step. But the viewers are still going strong, even in silver. This fold-up paper version, from asi/35591, is easily mailable and fits almost anywhere. Great for promoting a scenic spot or tropical getaway, or for any promotion where scenes can sell the service/product.

HEAVY DRAWING. With the kids now well into the school year, perhaps they’re growing a little tired of seeing those standard yellow pencils and the basic black lines they produce.  These silver-toned pencils from asi/50150 also feature an interesting twist; they write in silver too. They could help spawn mid- and end-of-year creativity in schools and other youth-oriented programs, not to mention summer camp activities. Good for livening up the accounting department as well.

PERFECT IMAGE. Ever really think about mirrors? How many times a day do we use them? That’s why they’re a good imprintable. This model, from asi/89475, definitely puts a new spin on what many of us think a wall mirror should look like. It can grab attention in almost any environment and can be used for a floor mirror (shoe stores) as well.
