1-30: Cancer From the
Sun Month. Tans might look great today, but you pay for them
tomorrow – sometimes dearly. Great for treatment centers, derms,
sunscreen manufacturers, etc.
1-30: National Candy Month. Endless possibilities for tie-ins
here. Just about everyone likes some kind of candy.
4: Tiananmen Square Anniversary. In Beijing, 1989. A reminder
that terrorists aren’t always hard to find.
6-7: Donut Day. Decreed since 1938 by the Salvation Army, a
day to make a donation and enjoy a few donuts. Coffee shops,
bakeries, etc. can get involved in co-ops.
7: VCR Anniversary. Sony came out with the Betamax today,
1975. It was a $1,400 miracle machine back then…
8: Race Unity Day. It’s embarrassing that in 2003 we still
“can’t all just get along.” Great day to promote it in your
area, at least. Virtually any firm can be involved.
9-15: National Little League Baseball Week. Super link-up to
any sort of baseball or kids-themed promo.
13: Friday the Thirteenth. The triskaidekapobic’s horror.
Logoed mirrors, anyone?
14: Univac Anniversary. The world’s first commercial
computer, large enough to fill several rooms, was unveiled today,
1951, in Philadelphia.
15: Magna Carta Day. Signed on this day, 1215. If you don’t
know what it is, and are over 12, shame on you. Universal
opportunities abound.
16: Stan Laurel: Birthday. With Ollie Hardy, part of one of
the funniest comedy teams in history. Great for networks, video
makers/stores, theatres, comedy clubs, etc.
19: National Sauntering Day. Dedicated to bringing back
sauntering (vs. meandering or gallivanting) as an activity. Neat
offbeat hook-up for gyms, shoe stores and more.
21: Baby Boomers Recognition Day. Saluting their many
contributions to our world.
21: Summer Begins. At 3:10 a.m., EDT.
25: Battle of Little Bighorn Anniversary. Today, 1876,
General George Custer and troops demonstrated why arrogance and
overconfidence aren’t good success strategies.
30: Leap Second Adjustment Day. Coordinating atomic and
astronomical time. Any time-related promo can fit.
