The Promotional Idea Showcase - Spring 2001 - Updated Quarterly

PROMOTIONAL PLANNING CALENDAR

JUNE

1-30: Cancer From The Sun Month. Putting your logo on some sunscreen is a good way to kick off spring promotions. It can work for customers too, at a festival or some other outdoor sponsorship activity.

1-30: National Safety Month. Worker safety is one of the great success stories of the 20th century. This century, we can do even better.  A good time to reassess your own safety program.

2: Marquis De Sade: Birthday. On our mind again because of the recent movie Quills. If your firm likes to project a funky image, give out some pens, quill or otherwise. Born 1740.

3-9: Small Business Week. If you’re small, plan a get-together with your fellows, maybe through the local Chamber of Commerce. If you’re big, think of this as be nice to your vendor week.

8: Frank Lloyd Wright: Birthday.  He designed some of America’s most dynamic buildings and starred in a Simon and Garfunkel song. Born 1867.

10: Alcoholics Anonymous Anniversary. AA Co-founder Dr. Robert Smith had his first day of permanent sobriety in 1935. A good day to re-emphasize the
substance abuse programs you have in place for your employees.

13: Supreme Court’s Miranda Decision Anniversary. In 1966, the High Court changed the future scripts of a thousand cop shows with its “you have a right to be silent” decision. Maybe you could use that line in a promotion ...

17: Father’s Day. You should be taken out to the woodshed if you miss the opportunity for a Father’s Day promotion. This is also Family Awareness Day and Children’s Awareness Month, a good time for family oriented promotions.

18: Take Your Pet To Work Day. Why not share Fido or Fluffy with your peers? A good opportunity to give out a dog or cat toy.

21: Total Eclipse of the Sun. For the Southern Hemisphere, at least.

21: Baby Boomers Recognition Day. Just what Boomers need: more attention. An excellent day to think nostalgia, maybe emphasizing what your company was doing 50 years ago.

30: Leap Second Adjustment Time.  The chosen day to add/subtract a second from clock time to coordinate atomic and astronomical time. Offbeat occasion for
any campaign involving time, or a logoed
timepiece.
