The Promotional Idea Showcase - Fall 2002 - Updated Quarterly

Promotional Planning Calendar

FEBRUARY

3: Norman Rockwell: Birthday. One of America’s best-known and certainly most “homey” artists. Interesting opportunity for museums, framing/art shops, art-supply stores or anything requiring a “good old days” theme. Note: There are logoed Rockwell calendars available.
11: Thomas Alva Edison: Birthday. Inventor extraordinaire. Any business that depends on phonographs, movie cameras, phone transmitters and of course, light bulbs, can structure a promo around this.
23: Gregorian Calendar Anniversary. The most widely used calendar in the world was created today, 1582. More logoed calendar opportunities.
26: Levi Strauss: Birthday. Yep. The guy that invented jeans. A fun day to allow jeans at work, with, perhaps a small gift. Clothing stores can have a field day.
1-28: American Heart Month. Dedicated to keeping people educated on what they can do to keep their hearts healthy and recognize the signs of a heart attack. Obviously, any company or organization can be part of this.
5: Dump Your Significant Jerk Day. There are all kinds of days dedicated to entering or maintaining romantic relationships. This one encourages people to end bad ones. If things have gone permanently south, time to change directions.
12: International Pancake Day. Recognizing one of the most popular breakfast (or lunch/dinner) foods. Fun idea for restaurants and kitchen-stuff stores, or an offbeat office competition.
28: Ben Hecht: Birthday. American playwright and newspaper columnist, he once said, “Strip away all of Hollywood’s false tinsel and there’s real tinsel underneath.”
