What makes a great cookie better? Apparently, care, love, a little elfin magic and a touch of hugs. Or so said Keebler’s mailing touting its new Soft-Batch Homestyle cookies. To promote the treats, the firm sent a supposed recipe box of old Ma Keebler’s, covered with forbidding language like “Keep Out,” “Top Secret” and “Highly Confidential.” Inside was the “Secret New Recipe” on a simulated recipe card – it revealed nothing more than Ma’s grandmotherly affections. But also enclosed was a picture of the product, a Keebler mini-history, an account of the cookie’s conception and the real bait: a sample.
